project overview
create can and packaging designs for one of Island City's brews for their first on-shelf sales.
purpose
when I interviewed the clients for this project, I could feel the adventurous spirit the brewery had. their walls held canoes and maps and the outdoorsy atmosphere was strong. when I designed this brand I wanted to give them something more than illustrated cans. I wanted to give them a story and give their clients a sense of adventure.

the story of
lost compass
EMBARK ON A JOURNEY into the unknown. You hold your guide in the palm of your hand. Who knows what may be waiting ahead? you may never know where you're going, you may not even know where you are, but with the Lost Compass you are guaranteed to find something new. So what are you waiting for? Let the adventure begin.
note 1.
my concept for this brew was a compass that, instead of pointing you north, would point you towards something new and undiscovered. I also wanted to create the connection between holding a compass "in the palm of your hand" to the client holding this can. I knew the brewery also had a strong roots in Winona and I didn't want to forget that in the design. the city in this illustration is heavily inspired by downtown Winona.

note 2.
I collaborated with a colleague of mine, who is excellent with designing unique packaging, to create a pyramid shaped box for Lost Compass. while this box could potentially hold 12 cans, I designed it with 6 in mind. the main reason I chose a more compact shape was for ease of mobility. many residents of Winona bike or walk to destinations (it is a college town, after all). this box was made for adventuring.
