project overview
create new mascot(s) for the K-8 school that better represent the name and identity of the school, as well as compliment the colors from the school's new logo.
purpose
the school's current mascot was an adult male explorer that was created by a past student. bluffview wanted an updated mascot(s) that was more relevant to their young demographic and could be used to make merchandise for their school store.

note 1.
I chose to use animals for a couple reasons. the first was their relevance to the school's name (selecting animals that could be found in the surrounding Winona bluffs). second was their appeal to diversity. I wanted to create characters that the students could relate to. by choosing animals instead of humans, it made it much easier to give the students a little diversity without leaving anyone out. I took a little bit of a risk in stepping away from the usual aesthetic of a school mascot to give this younger demographic something more 'cartoon-esque' and familiar.

note 2.
the scarves were added to both incorporate the colors of the school's logo, as well as to keep the 'explorer' or 'scout' theme. when meeting with the client, it was clear that exploration was still an important motif in their business, and I wanted to make sure they didn't lose that with these
new furry friends.

note 3.
another consideration I made in the creation of these little critters was color. each animal only utilizes 3 colors + white. I tried to keep the palette
minimal so it would be cheaper for the school to create and print
their mascot merchandise.
